We camped at the campground. Our site was great. It was spacious, level and had easy hook ups. The trees are beautiful and the grounds are clean.

Went to the park only, not the lodge. Plenty of trails and recc areas. Gorgeous fall colors. Camping options, marina, playground areas, and bathrooms available. Restaurant closes pretty early.

We hiked the fern valley trail. It was pretty easy. Well suited for little ones and adults. There’s a few spots near the lake where you might have to help smaller kids but our daughter and her friend managed well enough. Saw a lot of little toads on the trail. Lots of butterflies and squirrels. We managed to see a Heron fishing and flying. That made the trip in my opinion. We walked around the lodge. Not too much to see in there. Looks like a decent enough place to stay. Staff wasn’t very friendly but I guess you can’t expect much out of government employees having to work a holiday.

We arrived late and left early. Only issue was we thought we had booked a 2 queen room and got 2 doubles. Was cramped but worked for the night. We love state parks so the age and etc… of the rooms was expected. It was clean and comfy. We will go back at a later date to see more of the park.

Beautiful setting and lodge with restive, reflective ambience. Ashland area among the best of Kentucky hills and old forests. Friendly staff. Seriously good restaurant in the lodge. Rooms are comfortable and spacious, and will be even better with a modest upgrade.

I camped overnight at a primitive site in March and then hiked a bit the next morning, and I had a great time. The campground is really nice and the bathhouse I used was clean and fully functional. I made up a 3.5 mile hiking using connector trails, which was lovely! I really like how Greenbo has connector trails so you can design a smaller route for yourself, because doing a single trail would be at least 8 miles. I'll definitely be back this summer to kayak the lake and visit the water park! Update, August 2025: I kayaked the lake today and it was a lovely time - started at the marina and went to the lodge area and back. I saw several cormorants and a huge carp! Even though it was Labor Day weekend and the weather was perfect, the lake was quiet and not crowded. The boat ramp makes for an easy in and out on your kayak.

What a beautiful place! The lake is clean and green. We enjoyed walking the trails and seen lots of deer. Definitely coming back. Might not stay in the lodge next time though. Our room 204 had a strong mold odor coming out of the air conditioner. Spores flying. We had a fan in the car. So we used that instead. Much better. I mentioned the issue to management. And she refunded me a little bit, for the inconvenience. Hopefully they will replace that air unit soon. As far as the restaurant, the food is great. I had the catfish dinner. Large portion and really tasty.
